One of our Bridge families at an Open House.

Due to a phenomenal year of growth, our Bridge Program is moving to a new location. The Bridge, Hospice of the East Bay’s bereavement support program for children and teens, was launched in 2012. Since then, attendance has more than doubled.

There are many reasons for this dramatic growth. One is that most local providers of grief support do not have programs specific to children or teens, and they are referring their clients to us in increasing numbers. Another is the fact that the Bridge is offered consistently throughout the school year, making it more accessible for parents.

“The Bridge is the only program of its kind in the area,” said Joseph Lumello, Bereavement Services Manager. “Also, our family bereavement support services are free to everyone and families can attend for as long as needed.”

Finding a more suitable meeting space big enough to accommodate the increased need for family grief support was essential. After an extensive search within the community, we decided to partner with the Hillcrest Congregational Church - United Church of Christ. Thanks to their support we will be able to expand this important program to even more families.

Our new location is a spacious, comfortable and safe place where grieving children, teens, young adults and their families can express their feelings through expressive arts, play and peer support. We are grateful to the kind and generous members of Hillcrest who have made it possible for us to never have to turn down a family in need or to make a difference in the lives of grieving families.
